Na het zoveelste dodelijke ongeval in koers klinkt de roep om een veiligere wielersport steeds luider. In het specifieke geval van de op het WK overleden Zwitserse Muriel Furrer (18) wordt er gewezen naar het gebrek aan oortjes, maar het probeem is volgens Richard Plugge, algemeen directeur bij Visma-Lease a Bike groter: “We hebben nood aan een onafhankelijke veiligheidsinstantie. Over veiligheid mag je nooit compromissen sluiten.”
